The other day, I was walking around the local Safeway grocery store, trying to stretch the last 55 bucks I had, for food. In other words, stockin' up on Ramen noodles... yeah, don't go there... anyway, I noticed this older woman about 10 feet away from me, staring at me... like a hawk. I just kept going on about my business, trying not to notice... after a few more seconds of standing there, I asked her if she needed help. "No..." was the answer, "but I do have a question for you..."

"Sure", I said...

"Why are you bald ?"

I kind of just stared at her for a little while, then I explained that the bald spot on the very top of my head, had been growing slowly for the past 5 years or so, and I decided to give it a hand, and just go totally bald. It looked really stupid to have a full head of hair, with a giant circle on top, with no hair. My old man had the same thing, but he still has his...

"Oh, wow... is it hard to shave ?"

"No... it's easier for me to shave in the shower, and I use a straight razor and no mirror... takes less than 5 minutes..."

"You shave with a straight razor in the shower and no mirror ?"

"Yes, but the small apartment I live in doesn't have a mirrored shower, so I can't see while I'm shaving... but I do really well, don't 'ya think ? **rubbed head ** "


A blank stare is all I got in response...

I had to explain to her, that the last remark was a joke...

Took a few seconds for it to sink in...


And I thought that my best quality was to find humor in everything...

the BBC World Service online stream is much better than anything we have here in America...

I leave the stream on, when I'm home... and on all evening, too...

Here's a sneak peak into my own "creative process" when it comes to
working on a new idea. First, I start with a basic idea, that I've
already been playing the hell out of for hours or even days. Then,
I'll add something else, try that for a bit, might change something
here and there, then continue to play the hell out of it.

Numerous breaks are taken, sometimes I'll play something else, then
come back to the original idea. Every now and then, I'll just stare
at something...

Then, back to the idea... shower, rinse, repeat...

oh yeah, there's audio issues with this vid... had the mic gain turned
up a bit too loud, so there's a bit of distortion at times... as usual,

I spent this weekend going through a box of 15 to 20 year old cassette tapes of song ideas. There's probably about 43, 90 minute tapes... each tape is full of riffs, complete songs, or bits and pieces of songs... and babbling...

Now, the babbling, isn't crap or nonsense... it's well explained ideas, describing chord changes, fills, timing and tempo, and other what-nots. I've done this, because when it comes to remembering ideas and riffs, I'm forgetful. Big time. What's interesting, is that to this day, whenever I have an idea, I do the same thing... babble. Almost to the point of insanity... because I'm still worried that I'm going to forget the idea I'm working on...

I guess because of this "babbling", I've never forgotten anything. Which is bad, because ideas that come up now, I thought were something new... only to discover after playing it for a while, I've done this before...

And these tapes prove it. All these recent ideas I've been working on, are old stuff... so much for memory !

on the 3rd fret... so basically, everything's in F sharp...

I once sent her some Cala Lillies just to cheer her up, little did she know I used my last bit of cash to do so... she was goin' through some tough times, and I remember a conversation we had on AOL once about her favorite flower... sometimes, all it takes is a little thought to let someone know they're thinking of you... and still do.

Once again, one of the original 10 friends... hard to believe we've "known" each other for over 8 years and haven't even met in real life. She pulled through after some difficult times at being a new mother. Proud parent of 2 wonderful children... 'ya did good, kid... and you're still entitled to a refund ! Kiss those cuties for me !

yeah, yeah...

I know, didn't post "Day 14" yet... didn't have time to do so, but it's a-comin'...

But what I did do this weekend, was do an "open mic" performance at one of the local
coffee shops here in town. A few of 'em here, have mini-stages where they have poetry
readin's and what-nots... I happened to stumble upon the open mic night last week, and
inquired about performing... I was told, all I had to do was just show up, inform the staff
that I was there to perform, and the stage was mine when it was free. So this past Sunday,
after spending a couple of days workin' on some material, I stepped up, and introduced myself
and started playin'... took my 12 string and played a few original songs, from years ago, then
told the audience of about 50 people or so, a little about me. After about 45 minutes, I had
to stop, not because someone else was waitin' to go on, it was because the neck of the 12
string at the head, BROKE COMPLETELY OFF !!!

I don't know what happened, but I did realize about 15 minutes or so into the set, was that I
started havin' trouble keepin' the damn thing in tune. Usually, my ear is really great at
tuning an acoustic in a crowded, and semi-loud room, but this night, it gave me hell. No
matter what I did, it just wouldn't stay in tune. I didn't know for sure what happened. I don't
remember dropping the case, or hitting the guitar in any way. But, it was a clean crack that
started right behind the first fret, then just went wherever it wanted. SNAP !

Thankfully, I was finished playing and was telling a story, when I noticed it broke. I don't
think anyone noticed it, though. After I "mingled" a bit at the place, I left and came home.
Broke out the glue and clamps, waited a couple of days, put on some new strings and she's all
better now.


The morale of this ?

Well, not really one. I haven't stepped foot on a stage, in front of people, and played
music since 1996...

since then, I've played mostly by myself, not with myself.

it was just to see if I still had it in me, again...



and I sure did...


made this lonely guy's night, for sure !

would you consider this a stupid decision:

spending a majority of your last paycheck, to get something back that means the world to you ?
